A grade out of 100 is the easiest score to read, because the number you got is also your percent. If your test says 87 out of 100, your grade is 87%. This guide gives you a grade out of 100 chart from 60 to 100 with the letter for each score, and shows how to convert scores that are not out of 100.
How to Find Your Grade Out of 100
When the total is 100 points, you do not need to do any math. Your score is your percent. A 74 out of 100 is 74%, and a 92 out of 100 is 92%. Then you look up the letter on the scale your school uses. If you lost points instead, subtract them from 100. Losing 13 points on a 100-point test means you scored 87.

What If Your Total Is Not 100?
Many tests are out of 60, 70 or 80 points. The rule is the same: divide your score by the total, then multiply by 100. That turns any score into a grade out of 100. Here are some common examples:
| Score | Percent | Plus/Minus Letter | 10-Point Letter |
|---|---|---|---|
| 46 out of 60 | 76.7% | C | C |
| 42 out of 60 | 70% | C- | C |
| 49 out of 60 | 81.7% | B- | B |
| 62 out of 70 | 88.6% | B+ | B |
| 63 out of 70 | 90% | A- | A |
| 60 out of 80 | 75% | C | C |
| 63 out of 80 | 78.8% | C+ | C |
Check the first row: 46 ÷ 60 = 0.7667, and 0.7667 × 100 = 76.7%. That is just under the 77% line, so it is a C and not a C+.
A Fast Way to Check Your Score
To skip the math, open the grade calculator, switch “Grading By” to Points, and enter the total points and the points you lost. For a list of assignments, use the points based grade calculator. For a single test with questions, the test grade calculator does it in one step. If you already know your percent, the percentage to letter grade tool gives the letter.
Schools are not all the same, so your syllabus is the final word on your grade.
